Yesterday, Apil 22, 2020, we commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Earth Day. Now the whole planet is fighting against the covid-19 pandemic, which is causing so much pain to so many people. The toll in both human lives and money is enormous, having quickly become a health and economic crisis with no precedent.
In a happy coincidence, and because of the severe impact in the tourism industry, the ISCE (Portugal) organized the webinar “The end of tourism as we know it”, and I was invited to conduct an online lecture to a registered audience of around 550 participants from Portuguese speaking countries mainly.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute, particularly in this troubling context. The whole webinar, including the final part of Qs&As, was recorded and it is available on Youtube (click here). Hopefully, it could provide some inspiration and motivation to tourism students and professional in this hard time, with some useful ideas.
Something that I also prepared, but we had no time to present, is a set of specific impacts on Portugal and Brazil, in terms of new emerging trends. I take advantage of this post to share a summary here, in the following table (source: Turespaña, 16-04-2020).
Next week, I'll participate as a panellist in the webinar "Repensar el turismo" ("Rethinking tourism"), available here: https://www.eventbrite.es/e/entradas-repensar-el-turismo-y-ahoracomo-creamos-destinosquemolan-103403011190
