ENLIGHTENING TOURISM: 2020 SJR-Scimago Journal Rank

I am pleased to share the Journal Impact Growth highlighted by the recently published SJR 2020, based on Scopus data:

·       The 2020 SJR becomes 0.201, which is an improvement over the 2019 SJR, which was 0.128.

·       The citations per document metric (2 years) has also increased from 0.333 in 2019 to 1.462 in 2020.

·       Although still in the Q4 quartile, the journal improves its position in the area in which it is indexed, "Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Management", from 108 in 2019 to 103 in 2020.

There is still a long way ahead, but these positive results would not have been possible without the efforts of our authors, reviewers, etc. and, of course,, our readers. I would like to thank your important contributions.

I am confident that we can continue to count on your support and, so, the journal can go on its positive evolution, despite our modesty and the constraints we have.

P.S.: CITESCORE 2020: 92 in the ranking of 'Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Management' journals.

Alfonso Vargas-Sánchez
Editor in Chief of Enlightening Tourism. A Pathmaking Journal

Note: ET was indexed in Scopus in 2018.

MY INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN GLOSERV 2021

As a member of the Scientific Committee of GLOSERV 2021 (https://gloserv.org/), I am glad to invite you to participate in the Global Conference on Services and Retail Management. This year, this outstanding event will be held virtually for three days, from May 11 to May 13.

In my case, as a tourism researcher, I particularly invite academics and professionals in the tourism industry to attend and submit papers.

This cross-fertilization at the global level is more necessary than ever, in a post-pandemic time where everyone is looking for new insights and perspectives for successfully addressing the new challenges ahead.

Do not miss this opportunity: among other reasons, it is fully free.

Thank you for your attention and see you at this conference, organized in this occasion by the University of Naples Federico II, in Naples (Italy), and the University of South Florida, in Tampa (USA).

ENCYCLOPEDIA OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING

I am delighted to welcome you to The ENCYCLOPEDIA OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING.

It is my pleasure to share with you that I have contributed to this innovative encyclopedia with two entries: Halal Tourism (together with María Moral, from the University of Cádiz) and Michelin-starred restaurants (co-authored with Tomás López-Guzmán, from the University of Córdoba).

On the one side, with regard to Halal tourism, it is important to note that, at world level, is one of the tourism segments with the highest growth potential, which justifies the interest to know more about it and how to attract this kind of tourists.

On the other side, Michelin-starred restaurants are icons of gastronomic tourism. As centres for culinary creation and innovation, this entry is focused on the understanding of their value creation and their key internal features as businesses.

We hope that both entries can be useful. Thank you for your interest.

Introduction to my keynote in the 4th International Scientific Conference TOURMAN 2021

It is available on my Youtube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfezsghMX7I

Nevertheless, its text follows:

Hello. My name is Alfonso Vargas. I am Full Professor in the Management and Marketing Department at the Spanish University of Huelva, where I also serve as Editor in chief of “ENLIGHTENING TOURISM. A PATHMAKING JOURNAL”, listed in Scopus.

My keynote in the 4th International Scientific Conference TOURMAN 2021, organized by the International Hellenic University, in Greece, will revolve around the following question: "A new tourism governance for a new time?"

It is my intention to contribute to the engaging conference theme, “Restarting tourism, travel and hospitality: The day after”, with a reflection on the role of destinations governance in the post-pandemic time, more specifically to present some key guidelines for the re-calibration of tourism governance in the emergent post-viral context.

The challenges of this new time and the ways of acting to address them (with inertias to reverse and actions to explore) should be framed, from my perspective, within a model of tourism governance built on the re-adjustment of its core values, the enhancement of its managerial capabilities, and the articulation of a new alliance with society. In short, in a new context (for socio-economic, technological and other reasons), tourism governance should evolve: business as usual will not be an option. Hopefully, my speech on this topic is of your interest.

Let me conclude this introduction showing my gratitude to the conference organizers for their invitation and the opportunity they have offered me to participate in this scientific event together with so many distinguished scholars. Undoubtedly a great occasion for sharing, learning and contributing to the rewarding effort of rebuilding the tourism industry worldwide. I hope we can meet each other online: we count on you. Thank you and see you then.

In short: 7 articles in journals, 8 book chapters and 4 papers presented in international scientific conferences. In terms of the languages used, 13 of them in English, 2 in Portuguese and 4 in Spanish.

The appraisal of this output (which doesn't include supervision of research activities, biannual edition of ET Journal, participation in numerous webinars, knowledge transfer to the society, and the work done in ongoing/in preparation projects) should be done taking into account that it has been reached with almost no financial support. It is important to bear this in mind because a fair research assessment should consider a measure of productivity, that is a ratio between outputs and inputs, which is usually missing.

In total during my academic career, the summary is displayed in the following table:

Despite all this, my students are firstly, particularly in this pandemic time in which everything is harder. They are really brave.
